We may be more or less at the end of summer, but you’re likely to experience a few warm days between now and when you start using your commercial heater consistently. That means that you can still run into issues with your commercial air conditioning system. If you’ve had preventive maintenance done on your commercial air conditioner in the last few months, it might be less likely to develop problems. Still, it’s not guaranteed to avoid all issues. Make sure that you call for repairs if you notice any of the following issues with your commercial air conditioning system towards the end of the summer.
Refrigerant Leaks
The reason that your commercial air conditioner can cool your building is that it evaporates and condenses refrigerant to absorb and release heat out of the building. A refrigerant leak is, therefore, a pretty big deal, because it deprives the air conditioner of the fluid that it needs to remove heat from the building. The lower the refrigerant level in the system drops, the less able it will be to properly cool the building. Eventually, this will cause the system to break down entirely. So, call a technician if you happen to notice fluid of any kind leaking from your commercial air conditioning system.
Short Cycling
Short cycling is when the air conditioner turns on and off every couple of minutes instead of completing its cooling cycle. This is often due to an electrical issue. Short cycling affects the cooling ability of the system, but it also increases the amount of wear and tear that the air conditioner accumulates over time. The longer the air conditioner short cycles, the more likely it will be to develop other problems. This can even shorten the overall lifespan of the system if it isn’t dealt with quickly. Contact a technician if your air conditioner is short cycling.
Low Output
If your air conditioner doesn’t seem to be blowing enough air through the building, then it’s probably struggling with some sort of issue. You might have a problem with the air handler, which is the part of the air conditioner that circulates air throughout the building during operation. You may also have a clogged air filter, which can easily block a lot of air from flowing into the system. The only way to tell for certain is to have a professional check out the system as quickly as possible.
These are just a few of the many different ways that a commercial air conditioner can come down with some sort of problem. If you notice any kind of suspicious behavior coming from your air conditioner, you should call for repairs as soon as possible. It’s possible that whatever the behavior is turns out to be harmless, but that isn’t something you want to risk.
